Greetings earthlings. Been on a slight hiatus as I didn't realize the NFL season had already started primarily because it looks like my beloved Saints are still playing preseason football. I don't believe the team has hit that "wait, we aren't good anymore wall?", but rather a perfect storm that is completely the opposite of the storm that brought Brees, Bush, Payton and others to the team in 2006. I undervalued the absence of the head coach comparing it to that of a substitute teacher (or substitute substitute for 6 games). Combine the absent coaching presence with a new D coordinator that is trying to run a defense that requires more talent than available, running the same offense that's been run for 3 years with no adjustment and an interim coach that when the camera is on him looks like you would if you are trying to remember if you left the oven on when you left the house.....that will get you 0-3 with a lifeline (chance to make the playoffs) that has almost flat-lined before your feet hit the ground. I've seen worse days so my color's won't change, but unfortunately this feels all to familiar.
There has been several conversations about how the replacement refs are "ruining" the game. That may be an unfair assessment. As Steve Young pointed out, the ratings will remain the same because you and I will continue to watch. The current officials seem to have more glaring issues when wrong/no calls are made. The regular refs weren't free of mistakes in their own rights....but at least when they made bad calls it was firm. I've seen too many times where the crowd/sidelines/players have affected the officials decision on making a call. Not to be conspiracy theorist, but if it's that easy to sway them in game, how many Grover Cleveland's need to be handed to them pre-game to "keep it interesting". I can't completely blame them though. If you were handed the reigns to Apple's supply chain management straight out of high school, I'm sure their stock wouldn't be near $700 at the start of the day. Hopefully last nights debacle gets the ball rolling on this lockout situation.
Getting away from sports, I've been catching up on a few shows that have been recommended to me over the past few weeks/months. Between Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy, I am now questioning whether or not I have a soul. These shows have found a way to have me openly rooting for a serial killer, gang members and notorious drug dealers by making them less evil than what they are facing on a daily basis. I'm not certain whether they are the pro or antagonist so I dub them Prantagonist. I knew I turned a corner when I said "well clearly, you have to kill him to keep your hands clean". That shouldn't be ok right? Tell me I'm not crazy. After I fully catch up on these shows, I may have to limit myself to sitcoms on the local channels. When you get past those channels, there is no telling what depths the shows can take your psyche to. Things were easier when TGIF was a mainstay on ABC.
For the Record (and complete transparency), my pick record so far this season:
24-24 Straight up
19-29 Against the spread
It's about time! But it was worth the wait even without any funny videos. (But for real, what is up with that?)
ReplyDeleteI feel you on these shows...I can't remember what I was watching the other day but I was like "the only option is to kill him, otherwise he is going to tell yo business"...Dang I can't remember the show but I was like I do not need to watch this anymore.
I guess it will be about another month before the next post...:) until next time. - Faye
